Clay desiccant (activated clay) is derived from natural Montmorillonite or Bentonite minerals through mining, purification and granulation to a standard 2–4mm bead size. It is a fully inorganic, non-toxic material that poses no environmental hazard during disposal. Clay absorbs up to 40% of its own weight under normal conditions. Its key technical advantage over Silica Gel is thermal stability: Clay maintains consistent performance across a low-temperature range (5–25°C) without bead fracturing or swelling when subjected to sudden temperature changes · a critical property in refrigerated containers or winter shipping routes. The tradeoff is that Clay cannot be regenerated by heat and must be replaced after each use cycle.

Montmorillonite is the mineralogical name; Bentonite is the commercial trade name for clay rich in Montmorillonite. In desiccant applications, both terms refer to the same material. CEMACOSG sources naturally occurring clay that is tested for purity and consistent absorption capacity.
