The container leaves the factory in the heat, but out at sea the nights turn cold very quickly. Moisture inside meets the cold walls, condenses, and drips right onto the goods. At the port the buyer may open it to spotted shoe boxes, yellowed fabric and tarnished components, a shipment that has lost value and is sometimes sent back. Desiccant packs put in when you pack the cartons catch the moisture before it turns into water.
Silica gel is a porous bead of silicon dioxide, full of tiny pores that hold moisture. At 90% humidity it absorbs 35 to 40% of its own weight. The beads are inert, so they do not corrode your goods or give off any odor, and the pouch keeps them inside so no fibers fall onto the cargo. A 1g pack fits in a shoe box and a 500g pack hangs straight in the container, and some sizes can be printed with your logo, each with its own minimum order.
